Reclypt’s Mending Club caters to a wide range of skill sets. We enable our mender’s to take on simple fixes like replacing a button, or more technical concepts like embroidering or darning. Our approach to mending helps facilitate skill development while working with a community to solve problems. Not only do we have experienced menders on staff, but our community is experienced in a variety of skills and always willing to help others.

Why Mending?

Well made clothing is a luxury everyone should have access to. The Reclypt approach to mending is unique in practicing radical self expression while amongst a community of like minded people who want to agitate the status quo of churn and burn fashion. Our belief is that if people commit more strongly and informed to the clothing they invest in, people will invest more confidently. Therein creating less waste. Snag that holey, needs-a-hem thrift shop find and bring it over. We’ll show you how to enjoy it for a long time.

Mending clothes is a beautiful, meditative way to extend the life of your clothing, and it makes a powerful statement about your values. We know the joy of engineering your own repair.

About Earth & Me

Earth and Me is a local zero-waste, earth-friendly store with two locations in Astoria and one in Park Slope. We offer a variety of carefully curated products from small-batch makers who emphasize eco-friendly materials and natural ingredients, as well as a refillery that allows you to refill your own containers with essential household items. We also host a rich calendar of events and workshops meant to build community around the numerous intersections of environmental work.

Why Upcycle?

Upcycling requires a lot less water and energy than buying new and recycling. It decreases textile waste, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. Overall, the practice of upcycling clothes lowers the demand for new clothing production, which is extremely wasteful and destructive for people and the planet.

What is "Deadstock"?

Basically, any leftover fabric that is not being used. This can be untouched rolls of fabric, cut up fabric, or damaged fabric.

Nonetheless, it typically sits in a warehouse before it is thrown into landfills where it can take a life time to decompose, emitting harmful greenhouses gases as it does.

Also known by a few names, with “overstock”, “surplus fabric”, and “remnant” being the most common.
