Clothing & Accessory Swaps

The average NYC household throws away about 120 pounds of textiles a year. Which amounts to approximately 200,000 tons of clothing, shoes, linens, and accessories in total (& 10 times as much textile waste is being thrown away before consumers see the products). This is equivalent to nearly 900 Statues of Liberty, over 4,500 subway cars, or 13.5 Brooklyn Bridges. Keeping these textiles out of landfills can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage to the equivalent of planting 378,338 acres of air-cleaning forests, or keeping 266,073 cars off the road for one year.

Reclypt’s Clothing Swap

A clothing swap is a gathering of people who exchange their valued but no longer used clothing for clothing they will use from someone else’s wardrobe. These swaps are an impactful and low cost way to extend the life of our clothes, divert textiles from landfills, mix up your wardrobe, and meet like-minded people. In an effort to eliminate disposable fashion, Reclypt helps facilitate clothing swaps and is always looking for partners to help promote this practice.

Upon entry, participants will contribute the clothing, shoes, and accessories they brought then “shop” through what other people have brought (to which theirs will be added). As more people show up to contribute and “shop”, the inventory changes thus mingling and lingering occur!

No payment for the clothes will be required, but it is expected that everyone interested in “shopping” will contribute their own pieces.
